Go to Laugh-A-Day
Laugh A Day

I finally went to see the world's largest concentration of colorful petrified wood and an area called the "Painted Desert" discovered in Arizona. One day was not enough time to walk all of the trial tours, see all of the natural marvels, a 100-room pueblo built before 1400 with petroglyphs and more were found at Newspaper Rock. I plan to go again in future since I only time to see one-half of the national park.

This is the first stop on the southern end of the park at the Rainbow Forest Museum.

Along that first trail tour this massive petrified tree Old Faithful lay as it has formillions of years. Just look at the size of that root ball!

Huge pieces of these trees lay scattered everywhere!

Here is an example of the clay hills, log falls, and a pedestal log piece of the petrified trees being exposed after the centuries of floods. There is a self guided trail down into this badlands area.

This is at the stop called Agate Bridge where a fallen petrified tree spanned an eroded area from centuries of flooding and receeding waters.

There were unique eroded shapes created from thousands of years of wind and rain all through the park. Just beyond this mound is a place called Newspaper Rock with petroglyphs!

Hard to believe that all of this area was a flood plane with dinosaurs roaming these fallen trees...and some were trapped for eternity

Here Stephen wanted to show one of those eroded areas. This one is about a quarter of a mile wide and you can see a giant petrified tree fallen across the cravass behind me.

That's our Steve, always the radical taking the experience to the edge!!! Must be a male thing...Watch out honey!
