This mine operated for over 60 years until the mid 1950's. Today it is a prime example of mining at the end of the 19th century and how it evolved into the 20th century with new mining technology. It was a fascinating tour and one I know you will wonder at how men could work under such dangerous conditions to make a living. Here is an official city of Bissbee site for more information Click Here.

The entrance to the Copper Queen Mine. They had us all attired for the tour in helmets, special jackets, and lights.

Here we are entering a "stope" or area mined out on this level of the mine.

Inside the stope showing how they built platforms to mine additional ore out of an area.

In the stope they had equipment set up to display the mining process.

This is the area where mined ore would be deposited into buckets for carrying to the surface processing plant

This equipment was used to drill the blasting holes in the 50's and 60's

To move up and down the numerous shafts and levels of the mine they used an intricate bell system to know which level the "cage" needed to move to.

The mine sanitation device used during the 60 years of the mine's operation. Affectionately called the "Shitter".
